5 reasons why going to yoga on a Saturday morning can transform your weekend

Writer's picture: Abi DouglasAbi Douglas

Saturday mornings....You have a lie in, make a coffee and get ready and realise it’s already midday and you’re feeling sluggish. You spend the afternoon in front of the TV and before you know it, Sunday evening has arrived and you’ve realised you haven’t looked after yourself at all in your precious days away from work.

Well, have you thought about starting your weekend with yoga to set your weekend up for success?

A weekend morning yoga studio class

As both a student and teacher of yoga at the weekends, I love the positive effect practising on a weekend morning has on me and how it impacts the rest of my weekend.

Here’s my top 3 reasons why yoga on a Saturday morning can transform your weekend:

1. Set an intention for your weekend

If you ever get to Sunday evening not realising where your precious weekend of time off has gone, then taking some time out for you at the start of your weekend will help you set the tone for your free time.  By taking a step back, you gift yourself the time and possibility to reconnect with what you actually need and by setting an intention, you are becoming aware and voicing what you need. Intentions can be as simple as “This weekend I enjoy slowing down” or “I choose to move my body mindfully” but can be powerful reminders throughout your weekend

2. Avoid procrastination

By getting to a yoga class first thing on a Saturday morning, you avoid the “If I get time, I’ll book onto class” dilemma that always ends in finding other things to do instead of getting to a yoga class. So, start off your day with your practice first and enjoy the rest of your day, knowing that you’ve looked after yourself.

3. Start your weekend with positivity

Have you ever noticed your mood as you leave a yoga class? You might have a spring to your step, feel lighter, or notice all the positive things happening around you. Taking the time to draw your attention inwards and look after yourself on the yoga can have a positive impact on your mood and mental health overall. So, start your weekend with yoga to bring positivity to your weekend.
